Laser Cutters

Laser technology creates precise and detailed engravings on various materials. There are several types of laser engravers available, each with its own characteristics and applications.

Different types of laser engravers

  • CO2 Laser Engravers - uses carbon dioxide laser to generate the laser beam. CO2 lasers are versatile and can engrave or cut a wide range of materials, including wood, acrylic, glass, leather, paper, and certain plastics. They are commonly used for artistic engravings, signage, and personalised gifts.
  • Fiber Laser Engravers: Fibre lasers use optical fibres to amplify the laser beam. They are known for their high precision and are primarily used for metal engraving. It creates detailed markings on metallic surfaces and are used in industrial applications and for producing serial numbers, barcodes, and logos.
  • Diode Laser Engravers: Diode lasers are compact and affordable, making them suitable for small-scale and hobbyist applications. They are commonly used for engraving on materials like wood, leather, and acrylic. Diode laser engravers are typically less powerful than CO2 or fibre lasers but offer a cost-effective solution for personal use.
  • Nd:YAG Laser Engravers: Nd:YAG (Neodymium-doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet) lasers are solid-state lasers that produce high-energy pulsed laser beams. They are primarily used for industrial applications, such as engraving or marking metal surfaces, ceramics, and plastics. Nd:YAG lasers can create deep engravings and are often employed in the automotive, aerospace, and electronics industries.
  • Green Laser Engravers: Green lasers, typically based on frequency-doubled diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) technology, emit green laser beams. These lasers are used for highly precise and detailed engravings on sensitive materials like semiconductors, microchips, and thin films. Green laser engravers are commonly found in electronics manufacturing and research laboratories.

Factors to be considered while buying laser engravers :

  1. Determine the types of materials you intend to engrave and ensure that the laser engraver you choose is compatible with the materials you plan to work with.
  2. Determine the maximum dimensions of the objects or materials you can engrave and choose a laser engraver with an adequate engraving area to accommodate your intended projects.
  3. Consider the power requirements of your projects and choose a laser engraver with an appropriate power level.
  4. Ensure that the engraver is compatible with the software you prefer to use or that it provides user-friendly software that meets your needs.
  5. Ensure that the laser engraver you choose has adequate safety features such as emergency stop buttons, safety interlocks, and protective enclosures to minimise the risk of accidents or injuries.
